TEAM REPORTS (PHOENIX) - Bliss Event Re-cap
If there was an award for the best team with the worst luck, Mike Bliss and the No.22 Supercuts Dodge would be winning, hands down. In a car with two previous top-five finishes, and the fastest time in practice, Mike Bliss had no doubts that they could make another top finish at Phoenix.
But of all the things that could go wrong in a race, one of the rarest part-malfunctions occurred in the No.22. The brakes went out due to the loss of fluid from a cracked brake reservoir, sending Bliss into the wall at full speed. He was able to avoid collecting any other cars in the wreck. “Bliss is a good driver and he knows what he is doing, so these wrecks we’ve had are sheer bad luck,” crew chief Paul Wolfe stated. “The part malfunction we had with our brakes in Phoenix was a fluke; most of us had never see it happen before and never will see it happen again. There is nothing that any of us could have done to prevent it from happening.” Well, maybe someone could have paid off the bad luck genie.
Consistently, Mike Bliss has raced the No. 22 from any starting position up to the top-ten. In the past six races, not only did he race up to the top-ten, but he finished in the top-five in half of those races. Phoenix should have increased that statistic. “That car was great- we were fastest in practice,” Bliss stated. “Paul and the guys do an outstanding job every week giving me the best car they possibly can. I was kind of worried before the race because I hadn’t messed up the car already- in the other races that we finished in the top-five, I wrecked in practice. So maybe I should have kicked it or something.” “It’s really disappointing because we stood such a good chance to make another top finish for Supercuts, Family Dollar, and AZ Partsmaster. We will just have to keep our fingers crossed for Homestead.” Confucius once said, “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”
Ready to earn their glory, Fitz Motorsports will be back on the track again next Saturday in Homestead, for the last race of the season and once again with Mike Bliss in the No. 22 Supercuts/Family Dollar Dodge.
