Siemens' Deploys Unified Communication Solution over IP for Automotive Sealant Company, Reducing Operational Costs and Improving Productivity

Siemens' thorough technology analysis and innovative open solutions win new customer, supersede incumbent technology providers and competitors

BOCA RATON, Fla., Nov. 6 -- Siemens Communications, Inc today announced that Hutchinson Sealing Systems ("HSS") in Auburn Hills, Mich., has chosen Siemens to upgrade its company-wide communications system. The new solution centralizes the HSS's communications resources, saves money and improves collaboration among employees at HSS's facilities and those of its affiliates in the United States and Mexico.

A leading supplier of automotive weather stripping, HSS wanted to explore implementing a Voice over IP (VoIP) communication solution to reduce its spending on long-distance toll calls between its facilities, which accounted for half of its total spending on long distance calls. "We needed a way to leverage the latest communications technology to improve how we do our business, as well as save money," said Cedric Duclos, HSS's CFO. "We wanted a strategic partner, not just a vendor, and Siemens delivered the worldwide support with world-class service we were looking for."

Siemens Communications' productivity-enhancing applications, open service delivery with global footprint and its ability to guarantee business continuity and quality of service convinced HSS to choose Siemens over all competitors. Another major factor was Siemens' decision to bring in Siemens' professional services organization to analyze HSS's IP network and ensure any VoIP solution would meet HSS's quality standards during this technology migration. The analysis found underutilized bandwidth, which resulted in cost savings to HSS worth five times what the company paid for the analysis.

HSS has replaced existing infrastructure at its four U.S. facilities with Siemens HiPath 3800 communications platforms and plans to install an additional HiPath 3800 at an affiliated Mexican facility in late Q1 2008. The HiPath 3800 guarantees an effective networked environment and ensures a stand- alone operation at each site, providing the business continuity requirements for HSS's critical operations. The complete implementation will network all five facilities, enable the company to move 50 percent of its voice traffic to the IP network and save money by eliminating toll calls between facilities. HSS has already seen substantial savings in toll costs among its U.S. plants.

A Siemens HiPath Xpressions V4.0 Unified Communications solution, integrated with HSS's Lotus Notes platform, has improved productivity and decision speed by providing a single view and management interface for all messages - e-mail, mobile and fax - for on-site and mobile employees. The system simultaneously supports multiple languages, including English and Spanish, for prompts and message retrieval.

Siemens' strategic OpenPath approach has enabled HSS to optimize communications by deploying optiPoint 420 IP devices and optiPoint 500 digital telephones. These optiPoint devices enhance their existing legacy phones and protect HSS's investment in legacy infrastructure.

HSS selected a solution from Siemens because Siemens offered open, standards-based, interoperable architecture that enabled HSS to optimize its legacy equipment and meet its business needs through top-of-the-line technology, said Dana Rasmussen, President of Siemens Communications. "Siemens' centralized systems and Open Communications philosophy lower costs and provide enterprise users with maximum flexibility, scalability and manageability with superior mobility, security and performance," he said.
