ACCUWEATHER.COM NEWS FORECAST FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Coldest Air of the Season in the Northern Plains First Widespread Lake-Effect Snow of the Season on Tuesday State College, Pa. -- November 5, 2007 -- AccuWeather.com reports that an area of low pressure will continue to blast the northern Plains with the coldest air of the season on Monday. Snow and gusty winds will also affect some spots Monday, before the cold air presses eastward Tuesday and Wednesday. The first widespread lake-effect snow outbreak will be in store for the Northeast on Tuesday. An area of low pressure dropped into the northern Plains from the Canadian Prairies and began an eastward trek toward the Upper Midwest on Sunday. This low and its associated cold front mark the beginning of the coldest air mass of the season so far. On Monday, some temperatures in the northern Plains will struggle to climb past the freezing mark. From eastern Montana to northern Wisconsin, highs will be below the 40-degree mark, dropping 20 to 30 degrees from Sunday's highs. Colder air will press as far south as the Texas panhandle and across the Great Lakes on Monday, although most places will not see as drastic of a change as the northern Plains.
