NHRA made a contribution of $2,500 to Pasadena City College today at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in honor of legendary Los Angeles Times sportswriter Shav Glick, who died Oct. 20 at age 87.

The presentation took place in the Shav Glick Media Center, named in honor of Glick in the early 1990s. Pasadena City College alumni relations director Irene Aguilera accepted the donation on behalf of the college. The college foundation annually presents two $500 scholarships - The Shav Glick Journalism Scholarship - to outstanding journalism students who are active members of the college newspaper.

The only two-time winner of the NHRA Media Award (1977 and 1985), the personable Glick was more than just a sports reporter from a major metro daily newspaper assigned to cover drag races; he became close friends with many racers in the NHRA POWERade Series, including Don Prudhomme, Kenny Bernstein, Joe Amato and John Force, among others. His last story that appeared in the Times was an obituary published on Sept. 29 in which he eloquently reported the passing of one of his best friends, 94-year-old NHRA founder Wally Parks.

In February 2006, NHRA hosted a retirement party for Glick at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, where he was offered special thanks in moving tributes by Prudhomme, Force and several others. NHRA President Tom Compton and Parks presented Glick with a custom-made NHRA POWERade Series golf bag and commemorative plaque for his many years of coverage of NHRA Drag Racing. More than 300 members of the NHRA community, including racers, sponsors, public relations representatives, and many of his peers in the journalism world, attended the event.

Headquartered in Glendora, Calif., NHRA is the primary sanctioning body for the sport of drag racing in the United States. It presents 23 national events through its NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series. NHRA has 80,000 members nationwide and 140 member tracks. The NHRA-sanctioned sportsman and bracket racing series provide competition opportunities for drivers of all levels. The NHRA develops the stars of tomorrow by offering the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, NHRA Summit Racing Series and the NHRA Street Legal Drags presented by AAA. NHRA also offers the O'Reilly Auto Parts Jr. Drag Racing League for youth ages 8 to 17. For more information, go to www.nhra.com

On May 30, 2007, the NHRA entered into an agreement with HD Partners Acquisition Corporation (AMEX: HDP) for the acquisition by HDP of the NHRA's professional drag racing assets, including the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, together with a broad set of commercialization rights. The transaction is subject to HDP shareholder approval. Interested persons are advised to read HDP's preliminary proxy statement on file at the SEC and the definitive proxy statement, when available.
