40TH "WESTERN WORLD" FRIDAY-SATURDAY AT MANZANITA;

KAEDING POSTS 3RD "BUDWEISER OVAL NATIONALS" VICTORY;

PERRIS PRELIMS GO TO CLAYTON & HOCKETT

            Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Calif. now owns three "Budweiser Oval Nationals" trophies and hopes to add a third "Western World Championship" trophy this weekend at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Ariz.

            The Lucas Oil USAC National and USAC/CRA Sprint Cars combine for Friday and Saturday night's 40th Checker Auto Parts/Budweiser/Parker Store "Western World Championships" at the 1/2-mile dirt Phoenix oval. Friday's preliminary night feature is 25 laps and Saturday's championship feature is 40 laps.

            Kaeding caught Casey Shuman on the final lap of last Saturday night's 40-lap "Budweiser Oval Nationals" feature presented by Temecula Valley Pipe and Supply at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway to put his Kaeding Performance/Loan City Maxim/Shaver in victory lane. Shuman finished second in the race which featured five lead changes among Kaeding, Shuman and Tim Kaeding. Brady Bacon, Jesse Hockett and Scotty weir completed the "top-five" at the checkered flag.

            Missouri drivers Daron Clayton (Sikeston) and Jesse Hockett (Warsaw) won 25-lap prelims Thursday and Friday. Clayton passed Shuman and led the final eight laps in his Truckers 24-Hour/NAPA Competition Welding Foxco to beat Kevin Swindell, Shuman, Rickie Gaunt and David Cardey. Hockett passed Cory Kruseman on lap 17 and led the final nine laps Friday in his VKCC Motorsports DRC/Wesmar to beat Tim Kaeding, Shuman, Brad Sweet and Damion Gardner.

            National point leader Levi Jones posted finishes of 14th, seventh and 16th in the three features, while USAC/CRA point leader Tony Jones finished seventh, 12th and ninth in the three Perris features. Levi emerged with an 89-point lead over Darren Hagen, while Tony's USAC/CRA lead over Mike Spencer is now 88 points.
