With the way crew chief, John Stewart has the Vietnam Veterans POW/MIA Top Fuel dragster running lately, there’s nothing better than a easy stroll down the quarter-mile at over 300 mph for driver, Melanie Troxel.

He roared down the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona to the tune of 4.525 seconds at a speed of 309.27 mph in Friday’s qualifying for the NHRA Auto Club Finals to now occupy the No. 3 starting position.

“It’s an incredibly consistent car and I don’t even want to think of the last time it didn’t make it down the track,” said a delighted Troxel. “So far, we’re going down the track every time.

Yesterday, we were a little bit soft with the tune up (4.579 seconds), but in reality that’s kind of plan to go out there that first run out of the box and just get it from point A to point B and work from there. We’re definitely in the top half of the field pretty solidly, so now we have a great opportunity to go out tomorrow and play around with the tune up to see what we can get away with to get ready for Sunday. Qualifying continues with two more sessions on Saturday for the pro cars starting at 12 and 3:30 p.m.
