Zipcar Renews Relationship with Liberty Mutual

Zipcar to offer $300,000 coverage to members

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Nov. 1 -- Zipcar today announced that it has extended its relationship with Liberty Mutual to provide its members, age 21 or older, with up to $300,000 in auto liability coverage.

"Liberty Mutual is an innovative, leading provider and we consider them a partner in offering the best product and service to our membership," said Zipcar CFO Ed Goldfinger. "Our members have let us know that liability insurance coverage is important to them and we have responded with an enhanced solution. In addition to better serving our 180,000 existing members, we hope the coverage program will encourage more people to consider car sharing as an alternative to ownership."

Under the new coverage model, which extends to Zipcar members 21 years of age or older, all third party bodily injuries or property damage costs relating to an accident are covered in the aggregate up to $300,000. For both types of claims, the member remains responsible for a $500 deductible if the accident is deemed his or her fault or if no fault is assigned.

"We worked with Zipcar's executive team to develop a specialized insurance package that makes sense for their business model, and offers their members the most desirable coverage for their lifestyle," said Janney Wilson, Liberty Mutual Senior Vice President, New England Division. "We are thrilled to announce the increased coverage for Zipcar members today, and look forward to continuing our work in the emerging car sharing space through our extended relationship with Zipcar."

The increase in insurance coverage comes in line with other recent enhancements to Zipcar's service, including a new web reservation system, mobile applications, and the announcement to provide its service to students aged 18 years and older at more than 20 college partners. Yesterday, Zipcar also announced a merger with Flexcar, a leading US car sharing provider. Following the merger, all members of the merged Zipcar will be under the Liberty Mutual policy.
