MILES Debuts Advanced Design/AC Motor Technology for Its 2008 Line-Up of Low-Speed Cars and Trucks

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--All-electric automotive company Miles Electric Vehicles today announced the launch of its Advanced Design/AC Motor Technology for its 2008 Line-Up of Low-Speed Cars and Trucks. Featuring a more powerful 3 phase induction AC motor, the new and dramatically improved ZX40S, along with the just released ZX40ST, can travel 50-60 miles on a single charge while delivering vastly superior power and hill climbing capability. Like all MILES vehicles, the 2008 ZX40S and ZX40ST use no gas and produce zero carbon emissions.

As a DOT-designated low-speed vehicle, the new ZX40S can legally travel up to 25 mph on public roads. Key enhancements include regenerative braking and optional air conditioning.

Understandably, the media focus has been on our highway-speed electric cars that are in development, but we dont think the world can wait another year or two to start cutting emissions and gas usage, said Miles Electric Vehicles CEO Jeff Boyd. Were proud to take our low-speed lineup to another level in terms of power, design and comfort, so organizations and everyday drivers can start making a difference today.

According to Boyd, MILES low-speeds, including the new ZX40S and ZX40ST, are primarily designed for fleet use at universities, government agencies, corporate campuses, etc., although he points out that they can also be a great second (or third) car for regular drivers. Theyre not going to replace peoples primary commuting vehicles, adds Boyd, but theyre a safe, affordable, comfortable way to get around the neighborhood without using any gas or producing any emissions.

Its estimated that a typical fleet purchaser or driver can eliminate 12,000 pounds of carbon emissions a year by replacing a gas-powered vehicle with a MILES ZX40S or ZX40ST. Factoring in their minimal maintenance requirements and the fact that they use no gasoline, theyre also about one-tenth as expensive to operate.
