Telit Communications is Awarded 7th PTCRB Module Certification

SAN FRANCISCO--Telit Wireless Solutions, Inc., the US-based mobile technology arm of Telit Communications PLC (AIM:TCM), today announced its GE864-PY module has been awarded PTCRB (PCS Type Certification Review Board) certification, the regulatory requirement needed to offer GSM cellular communications products in the North American market. The GE864-PY is Telits seventh PTCRB certified module. With this certification, the worlds most compact quad-band GSM/GPRS module with remote programming features has cleared a major regulatory hurdle for use in North Americas emerging enterprise machine communications market.

With seven certified Telit modules on the market, we give our customers more flexibility to determine the ideal form-factor for their specific application, said Roger Dewey, President and CEO of Telit Wireless Solutions, Inc. Technologies and applications that enable the wireless exchange of information between machines are consistently on the rise, and Telit is primed to take a role at the forefront of this movement.

Telit Wireless Solutions, Inc. develops, produces and markets GSM/GPRS modules and solutions that provide the basis for machines, equipment or vehicles to interface with each other via mobile communications networks. The GE864-PY makes it possible to run customers applications inside the module, making it the worlds smallest complete platform for cellular communications. Additionally, the dimensions of just 30 x 30 x 2.8 mm and a weight of seven grams make it ideal for applications where module size is a critical issue, such as wearable devices and consumer-oriented location-based services, among others.

The GE864-PY also features a ball grid array installation (BGA), a concept Telit introduced on GSM / GPRS modules. BGA is based on tiny solder balls placed on the underside of a module which allow for direct mounting to the application circuit board, without the need for plugs, cables or connectors. Together, the compact shape and easy installation reduce costs and are crucial advantages for use in applications for the consumer market. Telits GE864 product family is the markets only module viable for very large scale production in this category.

The PTCRB seal of approval from the CTIA industry association ensures products satisfy the requirements of the American variants of the GSM / GPRS network standard. To receive certification, devices must exhibit US-specific features such as Adaptive Multi Rate (MR) and 850 /1900 MHz frequency bands. Testing is carried out by an accredited testing lab.

Telits modules, because they are quad-band devices, can be used all over the world where GSM / GPRS coverage is available. The quad-band capability of the GE864-PY with its virtually global regulatory compliance means that applications that have been developed for special vertical segments in the European market can be marketed to these verticals worldwide.
