NASCAR (DAYTONA) - 'New Car' Results In More Passing
Passing more than doubled in yesterday’s Martinsville race compared to the April race there.
During that first Martinsville race, there were 959 Green Flag Passes. Sunday, there were 2,102. The 2,102 passes are the most recorded at Martinsville since the 2005 inception of Loop Data (statistics generated from numerous scoring loops embedded in the track).
NASCAR’s “new car” has returned to a track five times this season – Martinsville, Bristol, Richmond, Dover and New Hampshire – and four times passing increased on the second trip. The stats suggest a maturation of the new car and further realization of one of its goals – increased competition.
Below is a breakdown of the passing at the five tracks the new car has twice raced:
Martinsville April: 959 Green Flag Passes October: 2,102
Bristol March: 991 Green Flag Passes August: 2,147
Dover June: 1,653 Green Flag Passes September: 1,720
New Hampshire July: 2,101 Green Flag Passes September: 2,218
Richmond May: 2,202 Green Flag Passes September: 2,181
