SWANSON-SBORO "SHOOTOUT" SATURDAY AT COASTAL PLAINS;
CARLSON TAKES VENTURA DIRT FINALE, FAAS CLAIMS TITLE
Tanner Swanson and Michael Sboro will square off for the 2007 USAC Carolina Ford Focus Championship presented by the Richard Petty Driving Experience this Saturday when the series completes its campaign at Coastal Plains Raceway in Jacksonville, N.C. A 35-lap feature event is on tap at the 4/10-mile paved oval where Swanson, of Kingsburg, Calif., will shoot for his fifth victory in the last eight series races. Sboro's lone win came June 30 at Hickory, N.C. but 10 "top-five" finishes have kept the Watertown, N.Y. driver in the hunt for the 2007 title.
Swanson's lead over Sboro stands at 30 points, with 74 available Saturday.
Nick Carlson of Norwalk, Calif. and Nic Faas of Huntington Beach, Calif. shared the spotlight after Saturday night's California Dirt Ford Focus finale at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway, Carlson winning the 15-lap feature and Faas taking his first USAC driving championship. Carlson took the lead from Ricky Kirkbride on lap five and led the rest of the way to beat Dennis Howell, Faas, Walt Johnson and Robby Josett. The win was Carlson's second this year, having also won the series opener.
