Double awards go to GEICO for fighting drunk driving
WASHINGTON--GEICO was acknowledged with double WRAPPY awards from the Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) for auto insurer’s ongoing fight against drunk driving and underage drinking.
GEICO received the 2007 WRAPPY Corporate Sponsor Award for significant contributions and also received the Community Partnership Award for their sponsorship of WRAP’s annual GEICO Student Awards. GEICO has supported WRAP since its inception in 1982 and was honored at WRAP’s 25th anniversary event on Friday, Oct. 19, at the Acela Club located in the Verizon Center.
“We are very pleased to receive these awards,” said Janice Minshall assistant vice president of GEICO communications. “As a founding member of this organization we will continue to help to protect our customers and the community by supporting this incredibly effective program.”
WRAP is credited with helping keep the metro-Washington area's alcohol-related traffic deaths consistently lower than the national average through its public education, innovative health education programs and advocacy. WRAP’s activities include the popular free cab ride service, SoberRide, that has provided more than 37,000 safe rides home for partygoers in the last 14 years.
WRAP also actively supports the Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign – a sobriety checkpoint program conducted throughout Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia – to help law enforcement keep drunk drivers off the road.
