September 2007 U.S. International Auto Brands Sales Scorecard
Total auto sales continued to slide in September, down 2.9 percent over the same month last year for a total of 1,314,894 units. Year-to-date, total auto sales in the U.S. are down 2.8 percent on the sale of 12,347,699 units. Adjusted for one less selling day this September, 2007 auto sales in the U.S. at the close of last month are estimated to reach 16.23 million units, down from 16.60 million units projected at the close of September 2006.
International brands held a steady 49.2 percent chunk of the U.S. market for autos in September. Combined sales for international brands rose 2.5 percent last month on the sale of 647,184 units. For the period from January 2007 through September 2007, combined international brand sales are up 3.2 percent for a total of 6,018,607 units.
Again this month, international brands accounted for 11 of the Top 20 best-selling vehicles in America. Toyota Camry/Hybrid took back its spot as the best-selling sedan in America, with sales of 40,438 units. Meanwhile, Honda Accord/Hybrid, which recorded 47,360 units sold in August, moved back to the No. 2 spot, with 35,031 units sold. In a month where trucks performed exceedingly well, the Toyota Tundra took the No. 12 best-selling spot, inching up from 14th overall in August. With sales reaching 19,571 units for the month, the Tundra moved past GMC Sierra to trail only Ford F Series, Chevy Silverado, and Dodge Ram.
