ALMS (LAGUNA SECA) - VOICES OF MAZDA RACEWAY : BILL AUBERLEN
Panoz Team PTG's Bill Auberlen lists Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca as one of his favorite American Le Mans Series venues.
Bill Auberlen has a plethora of experience at a variety of American Le Mans Series venues with Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca being no different. The Panoz Team PTG lead driver is preparing to make his 26th professional start with the Monterey Sports Car Championships looming next week in the No. 21 Panoz Esperante GTLM with Joey Hand. It's a circuit and an event near and dear to him.
A place like no other: "You couldn't put a race at a more beautiful setting. If you have a wife that's where you take her. If you have a girlfriend, that's where you take her. It's romantic; it's great dinners. You leave the track and five minutes later you are on the wharf or the marina. It's absolutely as beautiful as it gets. Then at the track, you can sit on top of the hill and watch the whole track. People love that race. A lot of people come and a lot of people watch it. The American Le Mans Series has some of the best, technically the best, cars in the world and for me it's one of my favorites."
The Corkscrew: "Just (the name) in itself has to tell you this is different. You come off of a blind curve and come straight down like a corkscrew type section of turns. The neat thing is that the spectators sit on the hill that faces it and the cars come straight down right next to you. It's pretty amazing to watch. Whenever I get a chance I walk up there with my Dad or my Mom, and watch Joey (Hand, his teammate) and root him on from the hill, right next to everybody else."
The final round of the 2007 American Le Mans Series is the Monterey Sports Car Championships at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The four-hour race is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, October 20. SPEED will air the race live from 5:30 to 10 p.m. ET. Live coverage from American Le Mans Radio and IMSA Live Timing and Scoring will be available at americanlemans.com.
