Alcoa to Supply Armor Plate for New Army Vehicle

DAVENPORT, Iowa & NEW YORK October 8, 2007; Alcoa announced today that the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC) has selected the company's North American Rolled Products business to supply a need for aluminum armor plate to support the new MRAP armored vehicle program. MRAP vehicles are designed to survive IED (improvised explosive devise) and ambush attacks.

Shipments of the aluminum plate will begin in November 2007 and run through June 2008.

The aluminum plate will be produced at Alcoa's Davenport, (Iowa) Works. Most of the material is slated to be delivered to the U.S. Army TACOM facility at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois. Average deliveries of aluminum armor plate will exceed 1 million pounds per month during the contract. Other U.S. Army Depots may be specified for delivery during the term of the contract.

"This is a win-win for the Quad Cities," said Mark Vrablec, Director of Manufacturing for Alcoa's Davenport Works. "This is a product we can produce and ship just across the river for work that will be done right here at the Rock Island Arsenal. We are pleased to continue our long history of supplying material for national defense to help protect troops."

"Alcoa Defense is proud to be a trusted partner for the U.S. military and defense industry original equipment manufacturers," said Dave Dobson, president, Alcoa Defense. "We look forward to protecting soldiers with our armor plate, while making MRAP vehicles lighter, faster and stronger."

The contract is valued at $31.7 million.
