NHRA (CECIL, GA.) - SUMMIT RACING SERIES COMPETITORS EARN TOP HONORS
The top racers in NHRA's Southeast division Summit Racing Series converged on South Georgia Motorsports Park over the last three days to compete for team and individual honors. The team from Bradenton (Fla.) Motorsports Park won the team title by 11 points over the second place team from Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Ga.
David Scigliuto of Seminole, Fla., earned the win in Super Pro, beating Kenneth Puffenburger Jr., Bradenton, Fla., in the final. In Pro, Moultrie, Ga., resident Chris Peeler drove his '70 Nova to the win over Ricky Pennington, Calera, Ala., in a '64 Chevelle. Sportsman racer Chris Peeler, Dresden, Tenn., drove his '73 Challenger to the win, beating out Kenny Bevins, Albany, Ga., in his '86 Camaro. The Sportsman Motorcycle final was a family affair as Candy Hagadom, Venice, Fla., rode to victory over her husband Roy. The winner in the High School category was Ethan Anderson, Pelham, Ga., who beat Melissa Tremonta, Lutz, Fla., in the final.
Included in today's action was the Race of Champions, a race within a race where top points earning drivers square off in head-to-head competition. Jamie Alexander, Grand Bay, Ala., scored the win in Super Pro, wheeling a '67 Camaro. Alexander beat out Tony Banks, Titusville, Fla., in the final. The Pro win went to Danny Paul, Mobile, Ala., who drove his '70 Chevelle around Mike Doherty, Titusville, Fla., and his '71 Demon. Christopher Adams, Bradenton, Fla., won in Sportsman behind the wheel of his '85 Mustang, beating out Joe Tillman of Longwood, Fla. Roy Hagadom, who was runner-up to his wife in the race for individual titles, rode his '81 Suzuki to the winner's circle, getting the win over Robert Meeks of Crawfordville, Fla.
Individual winners in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman and Motorcycle earned the right to compete for a national championship. They will run against the winners from NHRA's other six divisions for a winner-take-all $5,000 payday at the NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif. Each driver who advances to Pomona will also receive $3,500 for competing in the event.
