BECKLEY, McCLANAHAN LEAD QUALIFIERS AT AUTO CLUB DRAGWAY'S
SPORTSNATIONALS EVENT

FONTANA, Calif. - Racing kicked off today at the second annual NHRA Jegs
Pacific SportsNationals presented by K&N where drivers in eight
categories are vying for valuable points leading to divisional and
national championships.  Auto Club Dragway at California Speedway is
hosting the three-day event.  Comp Eliminator racer David Beckley,
Wildomar, Calif., set the pace in his '63 Corvette, while Alta Loma's
Brian McClanahan leads the Super Stock qualifiers in his '67 Camaro.

Glendale, Ariz., racer Mark Yacavone drove his '80 Mustang to the No. 1
qualifying spot in Stock Eliminator and Frank Tamez of Yakima, Wash.,
wheeled his '07 Mustang to the top of the Top Sportsman ladder.  In Top
Dragster, Paul Gladden, Tracy, Calif., was the top qualifier.

            Racing continues Saturday and Sunday at Auto Club Dragway.
Qualifying and time trials will resume Saturday at 8 a.m.  The Mopar
Hemi Challenge, a race within a race where top Super Stock racers square
off in head-to-head competition for a winner-take-all $5,000 purse, will
start at noon.  Final qualifying for Top Sportsman, Top Dragster and
Comp Eliminator is slated for 11 a.m.  All competitors will run first
round of eliminations beginning at 2 p.m.  Top Sportsman, Top Dragster
and Comp Eliminator will run first round at 5 p.m.  After racing action
on Saturday, fans will be treated to a Nostalgia Cacklefest.  Final
eliminations will continue Sunday at 8 a.m.  

              Tickets for the NHRA Jegs Pacific SportsNationals
presented by K&N are $20 each day.  Children 12 and under are admitted
