RINGERS RACING ROUND-UP
Brownsburg, Ind. - (October 3, 2007) While the National Hot Rod Association
had a weekend off before coming to the Torco Racing Fuels NHRA Nationals at
Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie, Va., a happening very close to the
NHRA family and organization hit home. The pioneer of drag racing and the
father of the NHRA, Wally Parks, died at the age 94 on Friday, September 28.
While I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Parks, I had the chance to hear
him speak about the memory of his wife Barbara, who passed away in January
2006, at the 2006 Awards Banquet. Mr. Parks seemed like a very passionate man.
What he spoke about his wife brought tears to me, as well as many members of
the NHRA community that night at the Westin in Palm Springs. Many great
stories, memories and racer contributions can be found at _www.nhra.com/wally_
(http://www.nhra.com/wally) .
The NASCAR Busch and Nextel Cup Series visited the Kansas Speedway over the
weekend. The Ringers supporting team of Penske Racing had one driver who
had a top-15 finish on Sunday, while the other had an engine expire that
relegated him to a 43rd place finish.
Ryan Newman was that driver who unfortunately had to have the honor of
finishing dead last in the LifeLock 400. Newman’s engine let go on lap 108,
putting him out of contention for the win. Even though Newman’s teammate Kurt
Busch led the most laps in the race on Sunday, he had to settle for an “alright??
11th-place finish. The finish, however, boosted him to ninth in points
for the Chase for the Championship. Both drivers head to the Talladega
Superspeedway this weekend for the UAW-Ford 500.
In off-road racing action, Scott Taylor and his Skyjacker F-150 picked up a
win in WSORR action at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., on Sunday
(September 23), following it up with clinching the inaugural WSORR PRO-2WD
Championship. On Taylor’s quest to winning this title, he accumulated six wins,
winning four of the five final rounds, one runner-up position and two
third-place finishes. Ringers Gloves is proud to be a sponsor of Scott and the
entire Skyjacker team…congratulations on your championship!
At Chula Vista, Calif., in CORR off-road action over the weekend, Ringers
racer Todd LeDuc in his Rockstar Energy Drink Ford picked up the win in the
Jason Baldwin Memorial Cup Pro-2 qualifier on Saturday, finished third in the
regular Pro-2 event points race, but not without a little LeDuc controversy
with fellow CORR competitor Ricky Johnson at the finish line and on into the
evening, but mechanical demons fell in his path on Sunday with hopes of taking a
repeat win in the race.
LeDuc and his Rockstar Energy Drink Ford will be on display at the Ringers
Glove Shack on the Manufacturer’s Midway at the ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA
Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, October 26-28. He, along with
Rich Evans at the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Box, will both be available for
autographs and photos all three days.
While LeDuc’s luck suffered on Sunday, another Ringers racer landed in the
winner’s circle at Chula Vista. Johnny Greaves piloted his Monster Energy
Potawatomi Toyota to yet another win in the Pro-4; Greaves also picked up a win
in the Jason Baldwin Memorial Cup Pro-4 qualifier race, but in the regular
Pro-4 point’s race, Greaves and his Toyota suffered a hellacious wreck, after
being tagged by another competitor. The footage from the crash can be
viewed at _www.dirtnewz.com_ (http://www.dirtnewz.com/) .
