Gulf Extrusions signs major deal with UK Company to supply 1500 metric tons of aluminium for automotive parts

Most Jaguar, Aston Martin, Land Rover, Honda, Toyota and Nissan vehicles manufactured in Europe after January 2008 to feature aluminium supplied by Gulf Extrusions

October 3, 2007

Gulf Extrusions, one of the largest aluminium extrusion plants in the Gulf, has announced the signing of a landmark deal with Sport Carrier Limited (SCL), the UK-based company that delivers components and assemblies to automotive plants in Britain, Germany and the US, to supply 1500 metric tons of aluminium. The value of the deal is estimated to be AED 28 million.

As a result of the deal, the aluminium supplied by Gulf Extrusions will be used in the aluminium automotive parts of a range of vehicles manufactured in Europe after January 2008, including Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, and most cars manufactured by Honda, Toyota and Nissan. The aluminium security cage that will be used in the Aston Martin DB9, Vantage and the new 4-door prototype to be released in February 2008, will be made from aluminium supplied by Gulf Extrusions, while the Webasto sunroofs fitted in the Jaguar, Land Rover, Honda, Toyota and Nissan vehicles will use Gulf Extrusions' aluminium profiles.

Gulf Extrusions has also announced that it will be establishing a chain of quality control units and warehouses in Antwerp, Belgium - which will be moved to UK in due course - to ensure timely supply of its products, and to maintain the highest quality standards. A special team from Sport Carrier Limited is also scheduled to visit the Gulf Extrusions plant in Dubai to stipulate the quality requirements and procedures.

“Winning this important contract from Sport Carrier Limited is a major accomplishment for Gulf Extrusions, and highlights the quality of our products and our ability to efficiently meet requirements of clients around the world” said Robert Holtkamp, Director of Sales & Marketing, Gulf Extrusions.

“Supplying aluminium to be used in automotive parts of some of the world's most sought-after car brands, certainly adds value to our corporate image and identity, and we are keen to capitalise on the outcome of this deal to strategically strengthen our presence in the regional and international markets,” added Holtkamp.

Sport Carrier Limited utilises cellular manufacturing to provide 'just in time' delivery of components and assemblies to automotive plants in Britain, Germany and the US. The company has composite and alloy component design capability and utilises Pro Engineer and Alias Wavefront to generate rapid prototypes, fabrication equipment, assembly fixtures and the geometry for CNC produced tooling. The company's clientele include leading automakers such as Vauxhall Motors, Aston Martin, Ford, OPEL, Saturn (GM USA), Hyundai, Suzuki, Nissan, Honda, Mitsubishi Electric and Hitachi.
