U.S. Auto Sales September 2007 Scorecard
DETROIT October 3, 2007; Poornima Gupta and Jui Chakravorty writing for Reuters reported U.S. auto sales in September rose 1 percent from a year earlier, when adjusted for an extra selling day last year, according to sales data released on Tuesday by the auto manufacturers.
The following are highlights from sales data released by the largest car makers in the U.S. market.
Overall industry
* Total light vehicle sales -- 1,314,894 million units, down from 1,354,361 million a year earlier.
* September seasonally adjusted annualized rate of light vehicle sales (SAAR) -- 16.23 million units, down from 16.6 million in September 2007.
General Motors Corp
* Car and light truck sales up 3.8 percent (337,640 units)
* Year-to-date sales down 6.7 percent
* Inventories at month-end: just below 900,000 units, down about 100,000 units from year earlier * Cars/trucks: Cars down 0.6 percent/light trucks up 6.8 percent
* Market share: 25.3 percent
* Key vehicles: Chevrolet Impala up 10.2 percent, Chevrolet Malibu up 1.8 percent, Chevrolet Silverado up 5 percent, Chevrolet Tahoe up 58.3 percent, GMC Sierra up 9 percent.
* Incentives: average $3,089 per vehicle, up from $2,988 a year earlier.
Toyota Motor Corp
* Car and light truck sales down 0.6 percent year-over-year (213,043 units)
* Year-to-date sales up 3.8 percent
* Market share: 16.2 percent
* Cars/trucks: Cars up 0.3 percent/trucks down 1.9 percent * Key vehicles: Tundra up 61.4 percent, Camry up 9.9 percent, Prius up 23.8 percent, Corolla down 4.8 percent, ES 350 up 15.4 percent
* Incentives: averaged $802 per vehicle, down from $878 a year earlier.
Ford Motor Co
* Car and light truck sales down 18.3 percent year-over-year (189,863 units)
* Year-to-date sales down 15.2 percent
* Inventories at July-end were 539,000 units, including 160,000 cars and 379,000 trucks
* Retail/fleet mix: Retail sales down 15 percent/fleet sales down 36 percent
* Cars/trucks: Cars down 33.7 percent/trucks down 2.4 percent
* Market share: 13.3 percent * Key vehicles: F-Series down 20.8 percent, Explorer down 31.9 percent, Expedition down 8.6 percent, Fusion up 9.6 percent
* Incentives: averaged $3,074 per vehicle, down from $4,036 a year earlier.
Honda Motor Co
* Car and light truck sales up 13.8 percent year-over-year (127,200 units)
* Year-to-date sales up 2.8 percent
* Market share: 9.7 percent
* Cars/trucks: Cars up 11.5 percent/trucks up 17 percent
* Key vehicles: Accord up 31.2 percent, Civic down 2.2 percent, CR-V up 68.7 percent, Odyssey up 24.2 percent.
* Incentives: averaged $991 per vehicle, up from $781 a year earlier.
Chrysler LLC
* Car and light truck sales down 1.6 percent year-over-year (159,799 units)
* Year-to-date sales down 3 percent
* Inventories at month-end were 450,733 units, or a 71-day supply
* Cars/trucks: Cars up 24 percent/trucks down 8 percent
* Market share: 12.2 percent
* Key vehicles: Jeep Wrangler up 78 percent, Dodge Ram pickup down 5 percent, Dodge Caliber up 25 percent.
* Incentives: average $3,502 per vehicle, down from $4,211 a year earlier.
Nissan Motor Co Ltd
* Car and light truck sales up 11 percent year-over-year (94,269 units)
* Year-to-date sales up 4.7 percent
* Market share: 7.2 percent
* Cars/trucks: Cars up 21.2 percent/trucks down 2.3 percent
* Key vehicles: Versa up 56.1 percent, Altima up 46.7 percent, Sentra down 14.4 percent, Titan down 11.1 percent.
* Incentives: average $2,015 per vehicle, down from year $2,531 a year earlier.
