NHRA JEGS Northern SPORTnationals from National Trail Raceway

*Racing Begins at JEGS Northern SPORTSnationals*

            HEBRON, Ohio – Under perfect temperate conditions and nothing
but blue sky, racing began today at National Trail Raceway. At stake this
weekend at the JEGS Northern SPORTSnationals is $400,000 in purse and
contingency. Beyond that the racers will be competing for individual honors
and NHRA Lucas Oil National Points.

Newark, Ohio, resident Larry Morgan outran the field in competition
eliminator with a pass of 6.988 seconds.  And in Super Stock John Coughlinof
Delaware, Ohio, was only out done by Jeff Gillman from Marne, Mich., with a
time of 8.814 seconds.

Top qualifiers in top dragster included a pair of Ohio residents. Taking
first in class was Tom Elliott, of Brooks, Ohio, with Bruce Westfall, from
Granville, Ohio, not far behind. Rob Lloyd from Whitmore Lake, Mich., drove
his '89 Daytona to the top spot in Stock Eliminator. And in top sportsman Tommy
Turner, of Naples, Fla., was able to outrun his competition which included
Delaware, Ohio's own Mike Coughlin landing in the No. 3 spot.

            Racing continues Saturday at 8 a.m. with qualifying and time
trials. Action will also include class eliminations in Stock, and Super
Stock, highlighted by the $5,000 purse in the Mopar Hemi Challenge contested
by racers in Super Stock running 1968 Dodge Darts and 1968 Hemi Barracudas.
Saturday's action will also feature the JEGS Top Dragster Shootout and the
Extravaganza Car Show with nostalgia top fuel dragsters and funny cars
running at 4 and 6 p.m.

            Gates open at 8 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $20
for adults and $5 for children 8-12 years old. National Trail Raceway is
located at 2650 National Road SW in Hebron, Ohio; approximately 20 miles
east of Columbus on old U.S. Highway 40, one mile north of Interstate 70 at
the Kirkersville exit. From Columbus, take I-70 to Highway 158 north and
follow the signs, or take I-70 to Highway 37 north to U.S. Highway 40 and
