Toyota Recalls Do Not Affect Chinese Made Camrys, Spokesman Says

SHANGHAI - September 28, 2007:

A spokesman from Toyota China said yesterday the recent recalls of Camry and Lexus ES350 in the United States do not affect Guangzhou-made Camry.

Toyota Motor Corp said yesterday it will recall optional "all-weather" floor mats in 55,000 Lexus ES 350 and Toyota Camry passenger cars in North America because they could interfere with the accelerator and cause an accident, the Associate Press reported.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a consumer advisory about the heavy-duty rubber floor mats - used to collect rainwater, mud and snow - noting that they could shift forward, trap the gas pedal and cause the vehicle to accelerate uncontrollably if unsecured.

Toyota's Chinese spokesman said Guangzhou-made Camry has no such problems, therefore the recalls made in the United States will affect Guangzhou-made Camry.
