WESTERN MIDGETS RETURN TO VENTURA SATURDAY
The USAC Midgets visit Ventura (Calif.) Raceway for the 115th time Saturday night. Dating back to the first race in 1986 a total of 43 different drivers have visited victory lane.
One who hasn't is current USAC Western Midget point leader Johnny Rodriguez, who enters Saturday's race with an 86-point lead over Scott Pierovich. Rodriguez is seeking his second series championship.
Pierovich has also never won at Ventura. Actually, sixth-ranking Chris Rahe is the highest ranking driver who has a Ventura victory to his credit, winning June 9 and also once last year.
Robby Flock, seventh in the standings, has three wins at the 1/5-mile dirt track and hopes to log his 53rd career Westen Midget win in the 30-lap feature.
The USAC California Dirt Ford Focus Series shares billing in Saturday's "doubleheader."
