NHRA (DALLAS) - WARREN JOHNSON OFF TO GOOD START...
Warren Johnson and the GM Performance Parts GTO Racing team got off to a good start in attempting to qualify for Sunday's final eliminations of the O'Reilly Fall Nationals in Dallas, TX, making two solid runs on Friday. After opening with a representative 6.778-second pass, they came back in the evening session to improve to a 6.705-second time, with the third fastest speed of the day at 206.20 mph to sit eighth midway through the qualifying procedure.
"We spent the day adjusting to the concrete surface here at the Motorplex. In the afternoon session, the track was a little greasy, as evidenced by the fact that no one ran excessively fast. They must have scraped it before the evening session, when the track was in the neighborhood of fifteen degrees cooler, both of which helped immensely.
"In addition, we made some wholesale changes to our GM Performance Parts GTO, going back to a set up that we had worked with earlier in the year, given that the track was not as good as we felt it could be, and it actually worked pretty well.
"The conditions for tomorrow's morning session have the potential to be as good, if not slightly better than they were tonight. It should be a little cooler, but the humidity could be higher as well, and the direct sunlight on the track could make it pretty warm. In any case, we'll see what we have to work with in the morning, take what we learned from today and adjust accordingly, seeing what we can do to improve."
