NHRA (MEMPHIS) - TROXEL PRODUCES 4 SOLID RUNS...
Melanie Troxel knows she has her own winning destiny in her hands tomorrow at the running of the 20th annual OReilly Mid-South Nationals with four solid qualifying performances on the Tennessee quarter-mile. Under the hot and humid conditions on Friday, she posted a superb 4.680 elapsed time in her opening qualifying round and has followed up with times of 4.592, 4.583, and she saved her best of the weekend for her last run of 4.575 seconds to place her in the No. 6 qualified position. “Yeah, we're having a great weekend,' said Troxel. “Not only do we have incredible weather for Memphis, we've been able to get down the racetrack on every pass and good passes at that every time. We feel great about racing tomorrow, but don't fool yourself, it's a tough field with everyone bunched close together. I think we're going to see a lot of good races tomorrow.' She will race Bob Vandergriff in her opening round of competition on Sunday and against Vandergriff, she has a 6-3 record, with her winning over him in their last race in the quarterfinals in Brainerd. “We're coming down to the last five races and we would really like to have another win to finish off this season. Every round is important, not saying that lightly, but it seems to be a little more important as you get down towards the end of the year. We're going to go up there and give it our best shot.' ESPN2-HD will show the final round results of the O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals beginning at 7 p.m. EDT on Sunday, Sept. 16.
