TOPEKA, Kan. – The best NHRA Summit Racing Series competitors from across
the West Central division have come to Heartland Park Topeka to face off in
head-to-head competition, vying for individual and team honors.  Saturday's
action included the Race of Champions, a race within a race where the top
points-earning drivers from participating tracks square off for a chance to
run for a national title against the winners from NHRA's other six
divisions.

In the Super Pro category Bruce Main, of Des Moines, Iowa, drove his '96
Firebird to a time of 8.033 seconds at 164.85 mph to take victory over Matt
Kohl from Lisbon, Iowa. Kansas City, Kan., resident Aron Austin took the top
spot in the Race of Champions Pro class driving a '80 Monte Carlo. Steve
Stockton, who calls Colfax, Wis., home, piloted his '65 Ford to victory
hitting a top speed of 92.87 mph. And in the Race of Champions
Motorcycle/Snowmobile class Chris Bloom, from Pierre, S.D., took home the
hardware with a time of 10.406 sec.

The event will continue Sunday with drivers in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman and
Motorcycle/Snowmobile as well as a High School category and two classes of
Jr. Dragsters vying for victory and a share of the $15,950 purse.
Competitors in the High School and Jr. Dragster classes will run for
trophies.

Gates at Heartland Park Topeka open at 8 a.m. on Sunday and eliminations

Tomorrow's individual winners in Super, Pro, Sportsman and
Motorcycle/Snowmobile winners will be invited to compete at the NHRA Finals
in Pomona, Calif., for a national championship. They will run for a
winner-take-all payday of $5,000. Each racer will also receive $3,500 for
competing at the NHRA Finals.
