LARRY MORGAN RACES TO THE NO. 2
PROVISIONAL QUALIFYING POSITION IN MEMPHIS
MEMPHIS (Sept. 14) -- Larry Morgan, who is currently seventh in the NHRA Countdown to the Championship, placed his Lucas Oil Pro Stock Dodge Stratus into the No. 2 provisional starting position for the running of the 20th annual O’Reilly Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park.
Morgan used an elapsed time of 6.688 seconds at a speed of 205.29 mph to move up to the runner-up position in the highly touted and competitive NHRA division. He missed being No. 1 by a mere .015-thousandths of a second.
“We did make a pretty good run; a little heavy with the clutch,” said a pleased Morgan. “Getting our Lucas Oil Dodge in the top half of the field is a pretty tough deal and we’re proud of that. It feels good to make a strong run. We went down to St. Louis for a few days of testing and we believe it really helped us out.”
Larry Morgan will have two more qualifying sessions on Saturday in hopes of improving his starting position at MMP with sessions beginning at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
ESPN2-HD will air qualifying highlights at 12 a.m., Sunday morning, Sept. 16.
