Australian NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver, Kate Harker, broke through for her first career win at this past weekend Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event held at Red River Raceway in Gilliam, La. This was Harker's fourth event start in the team's new Skull Shine / ProCare RX A/Fuel dragster since her horrific blow-over incident in Sonoma, California just weeks earlier. Harker has been making solid progress in her return to the driver's seat and the team has shown that they haven't lost their performance edge either having maintained a two tenth advantage over the field during eliminations.
The 24 year old rookie qualified Tom Conway's Skull Shine, Torco Race Fuels, and ProCare RX A/Fuel dragster in the second position with a 5.506 seconds pass at 261.83 mph. In round one, Harker defeated number seven qualifier, Darryl Hitchman with a 5.435 at 262.64 mph run and in the semi-finals took out Brandon Pierce with a 5.476 at 260.41 mph pass. The team was then to line up against James Thompson Jr. in the finals but racing was rain delayed for four hours and many race teams assisted officials in getting the track dried and ready for competition.
In the finals, Harker rolled in deep, but was able to hold a slight starting line advantage over Thompson, a .102 to .107 in reaction times, Thompson's car had the better 60' foot time but Harker had him covered by the 330' ft clocks and never looked back defeating Thompson with another impressive 5.411 at 265.43 mph run to Thompson's 5.576, 244.65 mph pass.
"I am ecstatic about winning here at Red River Raceway, the dragster was just amazing to drive and the team did a wonderful job getting the car serviced between runs" comments Harker "Tom is a fantastic tuner, our performance during eliminations is a big credit to Tom and our Skull Shine / ProCare Rx team." "I felt really comfortable and confident driving the car this weekend and had heaps of fun, I am looking forward to moving on to the Dallas, Texas National event in two weeks and like always we hope to go out their and do our best."
The next race event for the Conway Racing, Skull Shine / Torco Race Fuels team will be at the O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals held in Ennis, Texas across September 20-23.
