Jean Jennings Given Expanded Role at AUTOMOBILE Magazine as President and Editor-in-Chief
ANN ARBOR, Mich.--Source Interlink Companies, Inc. one of the largest publishers of magazines and online content for enthusiast audiences and a leading distributor of DVDs, CDs, magazines, games and books, announced today that Jean Jennings has been named to the new position of President and Editor-in-Chief of AUTOMOBILE Magazine. Formerly the magazine’s president, Jennings’s new role will give her operational control of all editorial content in the publication as well as its online, broadcast and video content.
Jennings was the first executive editor of AUTOMOBILE Magazine when it was founded 21 years ago, had been its editor-in-chief for six years, and is one of the industry’s most recognized and influential journalists. In her new position, Jennings will be responsible for further increasing the visibility and reach of AUTOMOBILE Magazine, while upgrading and expanding the premium publication’s editorial content.
“Jean brings a unique combination of editorial talent, enthusiast appeal, and entrepreneurial focus that will propel AUTOMOBILE Magazine to the next level,” said Steve Parr, president of the Enthusiast Media division of Source Interlink Companies. “Jean will now have hands-on control of the magazine on a daily basis so she can apply the same talent and focus to the print side of our business that she delivered during the past year to AUTOMOBILE Magazine’s online and television communications. It is more important than ever for AUTOMOBILE Magazine to provide a comprehensive and compelling audio, visual, and interactive brand experience, and we believe Jean has the talent and experience to get the job done.”
“I am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to inject the extra energy that AUTOMOBILE Magazine needs to thrive in today’s communications environment,” said Jennings, who has begun a complete restructuring of the magazine. Joseph DeMatio has been named executive editor, and Darin Johnson has been named the new Creative Director.
Jean Jennings began her career at AUTOMOBILE Magazine in 1985 as executive editor. She initially served as Editor-in-Chief from January 2000 to September 2006, when she became president of the publication.
DeMatio has held several positions at the magazine, beginning his career there in 1990 as editorial assistant, serving for five years as chief copy editor, editing the Buying and Leasing Guide for more than a decade, and most recently serving as senior editor.
Johnson returns to AUTOMOBILE Magazine (where he held various positions in the art department from 1994 to 2004) after serving as Art Director of MPH Magazine.
