EARLVILLE, Iowa - Jeff Hamelink is the best qualifier in Top

Raceway. The event kicked off Friday and will finish off on Sunday with
eliminations. Hamelink's initial pass of 5.344 seconds at 258.02 mph on

qualifying on Saturday. In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Andy Bohl held on to the
No. 1 spot as well, outpacing the field with a 5.730-seocnd, 250.83 mph

Hamelink, a resident of Savage, Minn., ran just quick enough to

from the No. 7 spot after the opening qualifying session to the No. 2 spot
with a 5.348-second, 260.41 mph pass. Earlville's Richard Putz improved on

the seventh qualifying spot in the eight-car field. Hamelink will face No.
8 qualifier Jared Dreher, Clinton, Ind., in the first round of eliminations.

Bohl, a Racine, Wis., racer, did not improve on his initial
qualifying run but he was able to hold off former division champion Kirk
Williams of Glenwood, Iowa, who also failed to improve on his initial pass
but stayed in the No. 2 spot. Bohl will take on Lance Van Hauen, Reinbeck,
Iowa, in the opening elimination round. There were a total of 18 Top
Alcohol Funny Cars vying for the eight-car field.

Jason Coan, Greentown, Ind., held on to the No. 1 spot in Comp
Eliminator and in Super Stock, Ron Roddel, Sioux Falls, S.D., also kept his
No. 1 status, and Anthony Bronge, Marengo, Ill., remained No. 1 in Top
Dragster. In Stock Eliminator, Robert Shaw, Sedalia, Mo., moved from the
No. 3 position to No. 1 while Top Sportsman racer Benjamin Board, Spirit
Lake, Minn., wheeled his way to the No. 1 position. In Sportsman
Motorcycle, Tom Gilligan, Fremont, Neb., catapulted himself from the No. 10
