GRAND AM (DAYTONA) - Bill Lester Returns For Grand-Am Rolex Series
Bill Lester, a veteran of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Special Reserve Daytona Prototype competition as well as the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, will return to Rolex Series action for the 2007 series finale – the Sunchaser 1000k at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah.
Lester will pair with Justin Bell and No. 12 RVO Motorsports Pontiac Riley car owner Roger Schramm after the trio tested successfully at Miller last month, gaining knowledge of suspension settings and other platforms. The race, the first for Lester and Schramm at the 4.486-mile, 24-turn track, also marks the third time this season Lester will start the No. 12 this season. Lester joined Schramm, Jack Baldwin and John Heinricy in the Rolex 24 At Daytona, starting and finishing 23rd in Daytona Prototype action. He and Schramm also competed in the Linder Industrial Komatsu Grand Prix of Miami at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
“Roger Schramm and I went out there just to see what it feels like,” Lester said of the recent test at Miller Motorsports Park. “We had a very productive test, seeing what the car liked and didn’t like. We had to learn the track and we had to gain a rhythm with the track, which has several turns, many of which consist of double and even triple apexes. We’re going to back to Miller with a lot of confidence and look forward to having a good run out there.”
Overall, Lester has five Rolex Series starts, with a best class finish of third in AGT action in the Rolex 24.
“For me personally, it’s great to get back behind the wheel of a Daytona Prototype,” Lester continued. “With the championship coming down to the wire, there are going to be a lot of eyeballs on this year’s Sunchaser, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
RVO Motorsports will also be making its return to the Rolex Series. The team – still searching for its first top 10 of the season – started six of the first seven Daytona Prototype races, and will compete for the first time since the EMCO Gears Classic at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
The Rolex Series Daytona Prototype and the GT Championships will be decided on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, in a 1000k endurance race to the checkered flag. The race’s start will air live on SPEED at 1 p.m. ET. The second segment continues with action to the checkered flag beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET.
