Steele Off-Road Race Report - Crandon II

Steele Grabs Runner-Up Spot at Off-Road World Championships

Madison, WI (September 6, 2007) ? Keith Steele and his Monster Energy
Goodyear Tires Chevy Silverado were confident that the team would
have a strong showing, at the 2007 edition of the BorgWarner Off-Road
World Championship in Crandon, Wisconsin. Earlier in the year, Keith
took home a pair of third place finishes during Crandon June event.
With Keith more comfortable, with the Chevy Silverado, the team had
high hopes for the weekend.

Saturday - Round 9
Keith Steele and his Monster Energy spent most of the nine lap race,
in third place, trying to run down, multi-time class champion Dan
Baudoux. After making a few attempts to get around Baudoux, Keith
finally made the pass stick, going through Potowatomi Turn One.
Later, in the same lap, the Monster Energy Chevy spun allowing Baudoux
and Williams to get by. Undaunted, Keith applied the Wolverine
Performance horsepower to the Goodyear Tires, and quickly passed
Williams and Baudoux on the final lap. At the checkered flag it was
Dave Waldvogel-1st, Keith Steele-2nd, and Dan Baudoux-3rd.

?We were running real hard with Dan and Ben,? explained Keith Steele.
?I got Ben when he looped it. Then got by Baudoux. Then I just went
into the far corner too hard and did a 180. This put me behind Dan.
Then coming into turn one, I got inside of Dan to get back up to
second. We had a fantastic race with Baudoux; I?ve been watching that
guy since I was a kid. I have the utmost respect for him. Racing hard
and racing clean with him has been a dream of mine. Just wish we had a
few more laps left to chase down the leader. The truck ran perfect; I
just overdrove the one corner. I have to thank everyone that supports
us. Monster Energy, J & H Transmission, Wolverine Performance,
Autoforms, Goodyear Tires, there?s a whole lot of good people involved
with our program?

Sunday ? Round 10
The second points race of the weekend was uneventful for the #229
Monster Energy Goodyear Tire Chevy. Keith came out of the first turn
in fourth place and held it all the way to the checkered flag.

Sunday ? BorgWarner World Championship Manufacturers? Shootout.
This unique event pits the PRO-4x4 and the PRO-2WD against one
another, for one of short course off-road racing?s biggest purses.
Then to make things more interesting, the promoters add five more
Super Trucks to the back of the field and allow them to race against
each for their own prize money.

In this final race of the weekend Keith stayed out of trouble and
finished third among the Super Truck field.

Afterwards Keith Steele commented about the day?s events.
?The truck was perfect again today. We guessed how the track
conditions would change, so we tried a different groove on the tires.
We just guessed wrong for the points race.

What was it like to compete in you first BorgWarner Shootout?
?It was fun. The BorgWarner Shootout was important for us to put on a
good show and not get in any of the PRO?s way. The Super Truck racers
have their own race within a race. We just didn?t want to tangle with
Ben or the PRO trucks that we did come up on. Wadding up the truck is
of no benefit to us. The track got rough, but we stayed out of
trouble. Somehow we came back with all our body panels and all four
tires. Congratulations to Johnny Greaves and Monster Energy for
taking home the top prize. Wheatland is next and it?s our last chance
at a win for 2007.?

Final WSORR Race ? September 22-23 ?Showdown in the Show-Me State? ?
Lucas Oil Speedway Wheatland, Missouri
