California Companies Unveil Premium Plug-in Hybrid at 2008 NAIAS
IRVINE, Calif. September 6, 2007; Two Southern California companies will use the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit for the debut of their first jointly produced, environmentally friendly, American-made premium car.
Quantum Technologies and Fisker Coachbuild, LLC, both of Irvine, Calif., have formed a joint venture called Fisker Automotive, Inc., which they are billing as “a green American premium car company.”
Fisker Automotive will offer a range of environmentally friendly premium cars. The first production car of the range will make its worldwide debut at the 2008 NAIAS. Initial production of the unnamed vehicle is anticipated to be 15,000 vehicles a year with pricing to start at under $100,000.
The companies said design and technology development are already underway for the first production car. All models will feature cutting-edge plug-in hybrid technology, called Quantum Drive, developed by Quantum Technologies exclusively for Fisker Automotive. The new plug-in Quantum Drive chassis layout will allow Fisker to design “innovative luxury cars with uncompromised proportions,” the companies announced today.
“We want people to drive beautiful fast cars that make environmental sense – cars that are eco-chic and will have less of an impact on global warming,” said Henrik Fisker, CEO of Fisker Automotive, Inc.
Fisker Coachbuild, LLC, is a privately owned company that builds exotic high-end performance sports cars. Quantum Technologies is a publicly traded OEM supplier of clean propulsion technologies, fuel and energy storage technologies and services, including propulsion systems for hydrogen. Quantum has a strategic alliance partner, Advanced Lithium Power Ltd., for lithium ion batteries.
