Alex Garcia Sets Sights On Richmond

Alex Garcia Sets Sights On Richmond

RICHMOND, Virginia (September 5, 2007) - - This weekend marks an important
turning point for Transnet Racing as driver Alex Garcia will attempt to make
his first NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) start on an oval track. Garcia, who made
his Busch Series debut at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City,
Mexico earlier this year, has competed in all three road course events on the 2007
schedule, most recently earning a career best finish of 23rd at Watkins Glen
 International last month.
Garcia, a native of Caracas, Venezuela, made international news in March
when he became the first Venezuelan to race in NASCAR. This weekend, the 98
Dixien/OmniSource/Prime Automotive Coatings Chevrolet will be running a very
special Venezuelan flag-themed paint scheme, proudly flying the yellow, blue,
and red colors of his native country. The team’s primary sponsor, Dixien LLC, is
 a Hispanic Minority Business Enterprise.
The Venezuelan driver is now looking forward to his first career NBS short
track event, and hopes to improve his career best finish at Friday’s Emerson
Radio 250.
“As a team we’re extremely excited for Richmond,?? said Garcia, a native of
Venezuela. “I’m very pleased with the progress that the team has made this
season. We showed a great deal of potential in our last two races at Montreal
and Watkins Glen, and I know after the dedication that we have put into our
short track program, the odds look good for us to continue our momentum.??
In Garcia’s second race of the season in Montreal, the organization had
tapped veteran crew chief Danny Gill to lead the team’s effort. The team
immediately came to life and began showing consistency. With Gill’s background and
knowledge, Garcia is confident his experience will pay off for the team on
Friday night.
“Danny Gill has become an important player in our race team,?? Garcia noted.
“He came into our team with a fresh outlook, plenty of experience, and an
open mind. He has brought us a new prospective. After notching our best finish
of the season last month on the road course, we feel that Gill’s insight will
pay dividends this weekend.??
The Transnet Racing team has elected to bring chassis No. 005 to RIR this
weekend. The car has never been raced, but it served as the backup car for the
team’s road course races. Interestingly, the machine is also a former
Roush-Fenway Racing Ford Fusion. However, since purchasing the machine, they have
transformed the Ford into a Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS.
“We’ve never raced this car, but we’ve tested it,?? sounded Garcia. This
race is important for us, I’ve been known for my road racing abilities, but
this is another opportunity for us to shine and we plan to make the best of it.??

Knowing that Friday’s NASCAR Busch Series race at RIR marks his final short
track events of the season, Garcia is looking for consistency and seat time.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that it will be a competitive field at
Richmond. We are planning to come fully prepared and ready to go. Practice will be
crucial for our team. Learning the track, adjusting the car and putting in a
solid qualifying run will be our main objectives early on.
Continuing the team’s sponsorship this weekend is Dixien, OmniSource, and
Prime Automotive Coatings.
“Our sponsors have been very supportive this season. They’ve been with us
through the good and bad, and that means a lot to not only me, but to this
team. This is another opportunity for us to give our sponsors some great
exposure, and that’s a high priority on my list to do this weekend.??
Following this weekend’s event, Transnet Racing’s next NASCAR Busch Series
race will be at Kansas Speedway on September 29th. The team will close out
their year by racing Texas Motor Speedway and the season finale at Homestead
Miami Speedway.
The Emerson Radio 250 is the 28th of 35 events on the 2007 NASCAR Busch
Series schedule. Practice begins at 8:30 AM with a rookie session scheduled to
commence at 9:40 AM. Final practice is set for 10:00 AM leading up to
qualifying at 4:05 PM. The event is set to roll off at 8:00 PM on ESPN2.
