HIRATA, SNYDER TAKE WINS IN BOWLING GREEN

 

            BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - In the final results from the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Holley Performance Parts event at Beech Bend Raceway Park Dave Hirata and Mick Snyder took home wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively.

Hirata, of Lowell, Ind., qualified No. 1 and out ran the reigning Top Alcohol Dragster National Champion Bill Reichert of Owosso, Mich., in the final round with a pass of 5.328 seconds at 260.26 mph. This was Hirata's first win of the year to go along with a semi-final finish earlier this year at the NHRA national event in Gainesville, Fla.

Synder, racing out of Demotte, Ind., beat NHRA North Central Division point's leader and former Olympic Cycling Gold Medalist Marty Nothstein in a semi-final match up before facing veteran racer Chuck Cheeseman of Galena, Ohio, in the funny car final. The 3-time defending division champion ran 5.819 seconds at 247.93 mph for the win over Cheeseman who clocked in at 5.924 at 241.89 mph. The pair have eight division championships between them.

In Comp Eliminator, Rodger Brogdon of Tomball, Texas, held off Southeast hitter David Rampy with a pass of 8.459 seconds at 161.98 mph for the win.  Rampy, of Piedmont, Ala., also advanced to the semi-final in Stock Eliminator where he fell to event winner Adam Davis of Cullman, Ala. Davis took the win over Brian Rogers when Rogers red-lighted handing Davis the win.

In the Division's Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster class it was John Coughlin of Delaware, Ohio, winning over Jerry Powell and Billy Vaughn won in the Dart Top Sportsman class over Don Peden. Vaughn, of Knoxville, Tenn., ran 7.057 seconds at 194.04 mph to Peden's 7.143, 192.36.

Other drivers visiting the Beech Bend Raceway Park winner's circle were Jimbo Fields winning over Kenny Morris in Super Stock; Shane Carr beating Cleve Stewart in Super Comp; Mike Ruff beat fellow Florida, racer Steve Cohen in Super Gas; and LeClaire, Iowa, resident Justin Rosenbahm ousted local racer Brian Rogers of Glasgow, Ky., in Super Street.

            This was the final event on the NHRA North Central Division schedule, however, North Central Division racers may compete in other divisions to continue to earn points toward championships.
