Johnny O'Connell will throw out the first pitch at Monday's Yankees-Tigers baseball game at Detroit's Comerica Park.

Johnny O'Connell has made a lot of pitches for the American Le Mans Series. On Monday, he'll do it again before a new audience. The Corvette factory driver will throw out the first pitch before the New York Yankees-Detroit Tigers baseball game at Comerica Park.

All six Corvette Racing drivers from the 24 Hours of Le Mans will be on hand: Olivier Beretta, Ron Fellows, Oliver Gavin, Jan Magnussen, O'Connell and Max Papis. The works Corvette squad will be "at home" next weekend for the Detroit Sports Car Challenge presented by Bosch.

The next day, Corvette and GM will hold a public Corvette Celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the GM World Headquarters at the Detroit Renaissance Center. It is open to the public. Corvette also has had a show car on display in the GM Store at the Detroit Metro Airport for the past month.

HONOR FOR FELLOWS: Canadian road racer, Ron Fellows is to be honored this weekend at the Mosport International Karting Academy with a corner - Corner 7 - named after him. The new name for what is now referred to as the 'bowl' turn will be 'The Ron Fellows Bowl'.

"Ron Fellows has accomplished many great things in racing," Ken Flute, managing director of Mosport International Karting said. "From the top levels of the sport, all the way down to the roots of racing - karting - Ron continues to leave his mark as a great Canadian. We are very proud here at Mosport International Karting to be able to honor him with 'The Ron Fellows Bowl' as part of our karting track.

The Mosport International Karting Academy is located on the outside of Turn 8 of Mosport International Raceway, and The Ron Fellows Bowl is widely regarded as the toughest section of the track. In addition, the fifth round of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels is in action this weekend at the Mosport Driver Development track.

"I want to thank Ken Flute and Mosport International Karting for the renaming of the 'bowl' to 'The Ron Fellows Bowl'," Fellows said. "Mosport is my home track, and the new karting complex, where we ran Round 4 of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship, is a fantastic facility."

Petersen/White Lightning's Dirk Muller is a past winner at fast qualifer at Mosport.

WELCOME BACK MULLER: Needless to say, Dirk Muller feels at home at Mosport International Raceway. In three American Le Mans Series starts, he has a victory, a runner-up and a pole position start in the GT class (now GT2). He is back at the famed Canadian venue for the first time since 2001 and Petersen Motorsports/White Lightning Racing and Ferrari.

"It's more or less the same," Muller said. "Due to the rough winters they have here, the track is a little cracked in some places. They have patched it up in some places with concrete and that makes the track very challenging."

Muller holds one of the longest-standing records in the American Le Mans Series with eight consecutive pole positions in a Porsche. The string started at Sears Point in 1999 and carried through Silverstone in 2000. He also holds the record for most GT poles in a season (6 in 1999) and in a career (13).

Muller already has posted three fastest GT2 race laps for Petersen/White Lightning and the Ferrari. He and Peter Dumbreck will start third in class today.

"It was a very good year and I was really at home," Muller said of 1999. "This year, one of the goals is to be back on pole positions and I've been very close so far. I'd like to get one but to get that many in a row is very, very tough. I'm very happy on this track and so happy to be back here."
