GALE BANKS ELECTED TO THE
SEMA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Azusa, Calif.(August28, 2007) - - Gale Banks Engineering has announced that company founder and namesake Gale Banks has been elected to his first two-year term on the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) Board of Directors.
Banks is a long time member of the association which was founded in 1963 and represents more than 6,800 member companies who lead the $36-billion specialty automotive industry. “SEMA is the essential and authoritative source for research, data, trends and market growth information,” he said. “It’s a great honor to be chosen by the people in this industry to represent them on our board of directors.” Banks was formally installed at a gala fundraiser on July 27 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Irvine, California.
The addition of Gale Banks to the SEMA board harks back to the early days of the organization when “Speed” was its first name. Banks’ own speed record-laden background in the production of power sends a strong signal straight to that core group. Everything that his company is involved in revolves around enhanced engine efficiency, “If that means more horsepower, or more torque, or better mileage, or increased engine durability … We’re working on it,” he said.
His five decades in the industry have worked to sharpen his personal focus on the future of the speed and power industry. Recently Banks helped write the rules for the “Automotive X-Prize” an international multi-million dollar contest that’s aimed at spurring competition to build the new generation of super-efficient passenger vehicles. “…Expect some real surprises,” he promised.
“Changes in this business are inevitable,” Banks went on. “We need to be aware of and to embrace the new technology or it will pass us by. I hope to be part of building a truly secure future for our industry.”
Joining Banks in the manufacturer category on the SEMA board are: Larry Erickson of Ford Motor Company, who was the chief designer for the 2005 Ford Mustang; Mike Spagnola of Street Scene Equipment, who’s the current chairman of the SEMA Scholarship Committee; David Stutts of Hot Rod Air, Inc.; and former board member Jeep Worthan of Auto Meter, Inc.

Banks indicated that his tenure on the SEMA Board would be one in which he would, “…Endeavor to use everything that I’ve learned in my business and personal life to further the cause of our organization and its members.”
