ALMS (MOSPORT) - CHAMPIONSHIPS AT STAKE AT MOSPORT

Audi and Porsche can clinch team and manufacturer championships this weekend at Mosport.

Championships in two prototype classes of the American Le Mans Series could be decided this weekend at Mosport International Raceway. Audi and Porsche can win manufacturer championships with victories, as can Penske Motorsports in the LMP2 team category and Audi Sport North America in LMP1.

Heading into the Mobil 1 presents the Grand Prix of Mosport and with 89 points remaining over the final four rounds, Penske, which has won six straight overall races, leads Highcroft Racing by 72 points and Dyson Racing by 73. A victory by either of the Penske Porsche RS Spyders, which haven't lost in class since St. Petersburg in March, will give the team its second straight title regardless of where Highcroft or Dyson finishes. Highcroft also must win to keep the championship alive.

In the P2 manufacturer chase, Porsche will win its second straight chassis title if any of its four cars (two from Penske and two from Dyson) finish first and either Highcroft or Andretti Green Racing (both fielding Acura chassis) place sixth or worse. The engine chase will be a bit tougher to wrap up this weekend as Porsche must win and all three of the Acura teams complete less than 70 percent of the race distance and score zero points.

Audi is well on its way to an eighth consecutive LMP1 manufacturer crown, and Audi Sport North America is on the verge of a second straight team championship. A win by either of the diesel-powered Audi R10 TDIs will give the factory team the class crown regardless of Intersport Racing's final classification. Audi leads by 74 points heading into the weekend and is unbeaten in class this year.

The German marque will win the manufacturers championship if both the Judd-powered Creation CA06s from Intersport and Autocon Motorsports fail to score points.

The next round of the American Le Mans Series is the Mobil 1 presents Grand Prix of Mosport from Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. The race will start at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 26 and will be broadcast live on SPEED. American Le Mans Radio and IMSA's Live Timing and Scoring will be available at americanlemans.com.
