American Traffic Solutions Increases Its Focus on Safety by Selecting Steve Filmer as Director of Communications

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Aug. 23, 2007 -- Steve Filmer, whose broadcast career has included reporting duties at TV stations in Phoenix (ABC Channel 15), Atlanta, Minneapolis and North Carolina, as well as a stint as Consumer Editor for ABC's "Good Morning America," has been named the new Director of Communications for American Traffic Solutions (ATS) in Scottsdale.

ATS provides photo traffic safety programs, including red light cameras, and toll enforcement and management services for more than 80 clients throughout the United States, Canada and New Zealand. Filmer, who is a survivor of a near-fatal crash caused by a red light runner, will be responsible for ATS' national and international communications programs. He will also work with the company's clients to help them communicate effectively about their photo traffic safety and toll enforcement programs.

Filmer gained quite a reputation in the Phoenix market for the personal approach he applied to many of the public safety stories upon which he reported. He endured being pepper-sprayed and "Tasered" by police. He was "hunted" by a police SWAT team, hit with a flash-bang grenade and shot with simulated ammunition that drew blood.

He says that ATS' commitment to improving public safety is what inspired him to make the switch from broadcasting to corporate communications. "I know firsthand the devastation caused by red light runners, excessive speeders and reckless drivers. I reported on their carnage for 20 years. I was evacuated by medical helicopter when I was hit by a red light runner and couldn't work for a year.

"ATS is all about using technology to make our communities safer," Filmer said. "I think this will be a good fit for me."
