The Great Escape

SOUTHAMPTON, England, August 23 --

- Sat-nav Giant Helps Motorists Beat Bank Holiday Blues

MOTORWAY madness is not going to stop Brits from escaping this August bank holiday weekend.

New research, for sat-nav giant Garmin, reveals that three quarters (75%) of Brits reckon that either gridlocked traffic (43%) or longer journeys due to traffic (32%) are the worst things about driving on bank holiday weekends.

Even so, one in three Brits (32%) said that they don't try to avoid driving on bank holiday weekends.

Now Garmin is cutting the cost of its most popular, easy to use, sat-navs to help Brits taking to the road this weekend by giving them multiple options for journeys, from the shortest to the fastest routes.

The nüvi 200 will be reduced from its recommended retail price of GBP169.99 to GBP149.99 and the nüvi 250 from GBP199.99 to GBP179.99.

Garmin spokesperson, Claire Carter said: "We all get excited about bank holiday weekends, with many of us relishing the thought of an extra day off work and the chance to escape in the car, whether abroad or to the British countryside.

"But traffic chaos is the biggest deterrent from driving. We want to help more people arrive at their destinations stress-free and safe this weekend by providing more affordable in-car sat navs - even if we can't guarantee the sunshine!"

Almost a fifth (18%) of Brits interviewed by YouGov for the Garmin study reckon their most memorable drive was when going on a holiday.

Rather than looking at a map, these navigators offer drivers timely turn-by-turn, voice prompted directions so you don't have to make last minute decisions about which direction or route to take.

If you find yourself stuck in traffic, the nüvi can quickly recalculate a route reducing the risk of needing to carry out U-turns or waste time sitting in queues. This means that you can arrive at your destination safely and stress free, avoiding any unnecessary arguments with your nearest and dearest along the way.

The nüvi 200 comes with full UK and Ireland mapping whilst the 250 includes Europe as well, making it the perfect choice for those looking to escape the UK for a last-ditch attempt at some summer sun.
