EaglePicher Technologies Names Viet Vu Vice President of Technology

JOPLIN, Mo., Aug. 22, 2007 -- EaglePicher Technologies, LLC, a leading producer of batteries and energetic devices for the defense, space and commercial industries, announced today that Viet Vu has joined the company as vice president of technology.

In this newly created strategic position, Vu is responsible for the design and development of new technology power sources for the defense, space, medical and commercial applications. He will serve an instrumental role in implementing the company's strategy to aggressively grow its lithium-ion battery business. His primary responsibilities include resource planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering initiatives including systems integration, prototyping, testing, and technology development and commercialization.

Vu joins EaglePicher Technologies with more than 27 years of experience in consumer products research and development. Most recently, he was vice president and chief scientist at Rayovac (formerly Spectrum Brands) where he led a team of 50 professionals, including two research and development laboratories with multimillion-dollar budgets. While at Rayovac, Vu received the 2003 Popular Science Best of What's New Award for developing the world's first and fastest 15-minute rechargeable NiMH battery. He also developed the world's highest energy density battery for military applications. Before joining Rayovac, Vu was program manager at Proctor and Gamble's Gillette division (formerly Duracell) and senior R&D engineer at Saft America where he worked on the development of lithium-ion batteries at Saft's Bordeaux, France, facility.

Vu holds a bachelor's degree in paper science and engineering from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, and a master's degree in materials from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. He has authored and co-authored more than 60 U.S. and international patents.

He will work from EaglePicher Technologies' new 24,000 sq ft state-of-the-art research and development center in Joplin, Mo. The new facility develops lithium-ion cells and batteries for military, aircraft, railcar, and a variety of other high-end industrial applications.
