QUALIFYING AT THE GLEN RECAP: After contact with the Turn 11 wall and significant damage on the left side of the no.01 TELMEX car during the second practice session, the team was under pressure to get the car ready for Qualifying. Missing the third practice session, the team finally got the car on the track with 10 minutes remaining in the 15-minute qualifying session. At one point, Pruett even lended a helping hand with turning a wrench on the car to get it ready. Unfortunately, Rojas was unable to get the car to its full potential after Grand-Am shortened the session by three minutes with a black/checkered flag. Rob Finlay qualified the no.19 Z-Line car and earned a tenth place starting position.
TEAM POINTS: No.01 TELMEX Lexus-Riley, 319 points (1st, + 2); No. 19 CGRFS Lexus-Riley, 160 points (16th, -182)
DRIVER POINTS: Scott Pruett, 324 points (1st, +2); Memo Rojas, 299 points (4th, -25); Rob Finlay, 220 points (13th, -104); Michael Valiante, 208 points (15th, -116)
EXHAUST NOTES: The heat of the championship race has reached the highest point of the season, as Pruett and No.01 TELMEX car hold a 2-point lead over Max Angelelli in the No.10 entry, the closest margin all season…It is vital for the team to finish ahead of the No.10 and No.99 DPs in the final three races…Pruett and Rojas have amassed nine top-5 finishes out of 11 races and have tallied two victories.
PRUETT DOES DOUBLE DUTY, AGAIN: After an ever-intense weekend of Rolex and NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) racing in Montreal last weekend, Pruett will suit up in a TELMEX and Wrigley’s JUICY FRUIT ® firesuit again in Watkins Glen. Pruett returns to Watkins Glen for his third time behind the wheel of the yellow No.41 CGRFS entry in the 2007 NBS season (previously Mexico City and Montreal). He will be looking to tally his first Busch Series victory of the season. Pruett’s highest finish under the CGRFS banner in NASCAR stock car competition was a 2nd place finish in the Winston Cup ranks in 2003 at The Glen.
VICTORY IN 2006 AT THE GLEN: Scott Pruett held off a hard-charging Max Angelelli following a restart with two laps remaining in the Crown Royal 200 at Watkins Glen to score CompUSA Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates' fourth win of the Rolex Sports Car Series season. CGRFS co-driver Luis Diaz started fourth, and Pruett took the point on Lap 43 and never relinquished the lead. Pruett had built up a 1.6-second lead on Angelelli's no.10 car with five laps to go when the caution flew for the no.09 car that went off course in the gravel trap. That set up a two-lap, two-car shootout between Pruett and Angelelli, with Pruett eventually holding on for a 0.553-second win over the rival no.10 machine.
