SHANGHAI - August 9, 2007: Camry, a new model of Guangzhou Toyota launched at the beginning of this year, has sold 80,000 units in the first half year and the company expects Camry sales to reach 150,000 units by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, another hot selling Toyota model Yaris, which has sold 3,000,000 units globally so far, will be locally made in China next year. By then, Guangzhou Toyota’s plant in Nansha District will face the limits of its production capacity.

The Nansha plant, with an annual output capacity of 200,000 cars, has completed after one and half year’s construction. Camry’s annual production in Nansha is expected to reach 150,000 next year if everything goes well.

Earlier Chinese media reported that Yaris will be produced at the second plant. However, Feng Xinya, deputy general manager of Guangzhou Toyota denied the report. “The Nansha plant will start production next year if nothing goes wrong. On the other hand, we will expand the production capacity but we will not increase of the production of Yaris by cutting the output of Camry.”
