DOUBLE-DRIVING LUCAS
HOSTS NHRA’S LUCAS OIL NATIONALS

Commemorates Fourth Season of Top Fuel Competition

BRAINERD, Minn. (August 7) – Morgan Lucas celebrates the start of his fourth season as a NHRA pro and at the ripe age of 23 years old, this young man is acting more like a conversant veteran nowadays driving in two completely different NHRA racing categories. Besides his ultra-quick family owned Top Fuel dragster, he’s also mounting an assault on the sportsman scene driving for the Top Alcohol championship.
It’s even hard for him to believe where the time has gone and after 121 rounds of competition out of 61 starts, he’s still in search of his first Top Fuel win, although he’s still winning on the Lucas Oil series coming fresh off his NHRA Division 7 Alcohol victory last weekend at Sonoma.
Now all his thoughts are turning to his family sponsored-event, the renowned Lucas Oil Nationals in the heart of Minnesota lake country at the Brainerd International Raceway on August 10 – 12. Besides where it all began for him, Lucas fondly looks forward to this weekend every year.
“It’s the race so many fans can get excited about and with a campground full a avid race fans makes the event what it is,” said a smiling Lucas. “It’s one of the largest crowds we have all year and to win my first race in front of this bunch would certainly be a day to remember.”
Lucas continues the season waiting patiently to find his racing groove and although he’s in the No. 15 position in the POWERade points, the last thing Lucas is thinking about is giving up.
“We going to continue to try everything we can to get our car back on track,” said Lucas. “We want to be a formidable team for the remaining races and our goal is to win. Yeah, we could be a real thorn for some of the guys going for the championship before the season is over.”
His stamina is remaining strong. He still has his Alcohol team running robust and they are are heading to Brainerd giving Lucas a double-duty driving chore. He’s now accomplished this feat many times and is ready to double up with two wins this Sunday.
The start of the 26th annual Lucas Oil Nationals begins at the Brainerd International Raceway on Friday, August 10, with two qualifying sessions starting at 3:30 p.m. (CDT) with a second session at 6:15 p.m. Saturday's time trials start at 12:00 p.m. for the nitro classes followed by a second session at 2:45 p.m. The race starts promptly at 11 a.m. on Sunday, August 12.
