Patrick Carpentier's NASCAR Watkins Glen Preview
CARPENTIER TO COMPETE IN THE NASCAR NEXTEL CUP AND BUSCH SERIES RACES
THIS WEEKEND AT WATKINS GLEN
Montreal, August 7, 2007 - At a NASCAR
Teleconference held Tuesday, Patrick Carpentier
has confirmed that he will compete in the two
NASCAR road course races held this weekend at
Watkins Glen, New York. The Canadian driver will,
for the second consecutive weekend, drive the #22
Fitz Motorsports Dodge in the NASCAR Busch Series
race on Saturday August 11, and make his debut in
the number 10 Gillett Evernham Motorsports Dodge
Avenger in Sunday's NEXTEL Cup race. Carpentier
will take over Scott Riggs ride for the day in
the #10Valvoline Stanley Tools Dodge Avenger.
"It's a dream, a dream come true," Carpentier
said about is ride in the upcoming NEXTEL Cup
race during the NASCAR Teleconference. "I am
extremely excited to race in the Cup Series this
weekend. The last few weeks have been
exceptionally crazy and very thrilling with my
debut in the Busch Series in Montreal with Fitz
Motorsports. And now, I am back with Fitz and I
am also driving in NEXTEL. I want to do a good
job this weekend and also have a good time. If
you are enjoying yourself, you usually end up
having good results. Right now, it's like a dream
and I am flying real high. What happened in
Montreal stays in Montreal, however great it was,
but now I am turning a new leaf. I am not going
to win the pole and finish second in every race,
but we will see how it goes. I want to be up
front and battle with the leaders."
Carpentier also commented on the fact that he
wore a Montreal Canadian Hockey team sweater
during the Montreal press conference he attended
with Carl Edwards, and the fact that he will be
driving one of George Gillett's Cup cars this
weekend, the new owner of Gillett Evernham
Motorsports.
"Things happen for a reason, and that was not on
my mind then," Carpentier continued. "I wore the
Canadians sweater and here I am now driving one
of George Gillett's cars. I am really excited
even though I have not driven a lap in this car."
Second consecutive race with Fitz Motorsports
The news of his return with Fitz Motorsports came
first in the wake of Carpentier's astonishing
debut in the inaugural Busch Series race held
last Saturday in Montreal where he collected the
pole and finished in second. Carpentier's success
prompted the Quebec Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge Dealers
Association, Federal Equipment and the Komatsu
Group to continue their associate sponsors role
on the #22 Fitz Dodge while Supercuts and Family
Dollar remain the team's primary sponsors.
"Racing in the Busch Series in Montreal was a
fairy tale unfolding in front of me, and it
turned out to be a lot of fun," Carpentier also
said. "Paul Wolfe, the team's crew chief, did a
super job in Montreal. We had a fun time and we
were also very successful. I felt right at home
in the #22 car. I am very excited to return with
Armando Fitz's team for a second consecutive
race. I also want to thank Peter Baron, SAMAX
Motorsport team owner in the Rolex Series, for
giving me time out this weekend in order for me
to concentrate on my NASCAR races. Armando Fitz
also told me this week that he plans to run me at
the oval in Phoenix later this year. This is very
stimulating as I won my first pole and my first
Champ Car race on ovals."
"The Dodge Dealers of Quebec are proud to
continue their association with Patrick
Carpentier who is pursuing his quest to find a
regular ride in the now well-known #22 DODGE
Charger," said Pierre Tremblay, Vice-President of
the Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge Dealers of Quebec. "We
are happy to contribute to what could become the
start of a promising career in NASCAR for this
fine, super talented Quebec driver."
Alain Bédard, Vice-President Sales and Marketing
for Federal Equipment and the Komatsu Group is
one of Patrick Carpentier's closest fans and he
had this to say about the continuing
collaboration between the company he works for
and the Quebec driver. "Following his amazing
success in Montreal, we are very happy to
maintain our involvement this weekend with
Canadian Patrick Carpentier for another round of
the NASCAR Busch Series at Watkins Glen. Patrick
was very quick to show that there was room for a
driver of his calibre to run in NASCAR and we are
very proud of him."
