SPECIAL EVENT (LANSING) - Jack Roush to be Honored at Race Day Event
Jack Roush, Roush Enterprises chairman of the board, will accept the "2007 Master Shop Rat Award," presented by the Shop Rat Foundation, on August 18. The awards presentation will take place in conjunction with the first annual Manufacturers Day at the Races event, co-sponsored by the Michigan Manufacturers Association and the Jackson Area Manufacturers Association, at Michigan International Speedway (MIS) in Brooklyn.
"Jack Roush has been a proud 'shop rat' -- a skilled craftsman who builds and invent things -- all of his life," said Chris Salow, founder of the Shop Rat Foundation. "Throughout his career with Ford, Chrysler, Monroe Community College, Eastern Michigan University, Jack Roush Performance Engineering, the Roush Fenway Racing organization and other endeavors, he has proven that -- using your mind and your hands -- you can create incredible things. Mr. Roush is the true definition of a Master Shop Rat."
Roush Enterprises, based in Livonia, Michigan, consists of three divisions, Roush Industries, Roush Performance and Roush Fenway Racing. Roush Industries is an engineering and development company servicing the automotive, aviation, electronics and sports equipment industries. Roush Performance is a maker of high performance road cars and aftermarket performance parts, including packages for Ford Mustangs and F-150 Trucks. The Shop Rat Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Munith, Michigan that provides hands-on, skilled trade educational opportunities to middle and high school students in Michigan. Shop Rat programs include the design and build of custom motorcycles, customized wheelchairs and other projects that allow students to use their hands and minds to create quality products.
The Master Shop Award ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. The NASCAR Busch Series CARFAX 250 race will begin at 3:30 p.m.
The public is invited to attend the Manufacturers Day at the Races event and awards ceremony. A $130 package, which includes a ticket to the race, entrance to the event, lunch, a pit pass and more, can be purchased by calling the MIS ticket office at 517-592-6666. From each package sold, $30 will go to support the Shop Rat Foundation's educational programs.
