LOS ANGELES, Aug. 1, 2007 -- The Motor Press Guild (MPG), America's largest professional automotive media association, announces that performance electric-car company Co-Founder and CEO, Martin Eberhard of Tesla Motors will speak at the August 7, luncheon. In a time when fuel alternatives are top-of-mind and electric cars can provide a possible solution to environmental issues, Eberhard will discuss the business case for starting Tesla Motors and the viability of the electric car today and in the future. He will also reveal plans for the launch of the company's high-performance, all-electric sports car, the Tesla Roadster and the forthcoming four-door performance sedan, currently code-named WhiteStar.
On display at the luncheon will be The Tesla Roadster, the high-performance, 100% electric sports car accelerating to 60 mph in 4 seconds and has a range of more than 200 miles on a single charge. Tesla Motors expects to start shipping Roadsters to customers this Fall.
Martin Eberhard learned to drive on a farm in Kansas when he was just 13 years old. There began a lifelong fascination with, and love of, cars and driving. Eberhard can still remember every car he's ever purchased, how much it cost, and how many miles were on it when he got it. It's this passion, along with 20 years of start-up, management, and development experience that Eberhard brings to Tesla Motors. He was a co-founder of two successful start-ups (serving as Chief Engineer at one, and CEO at the next), and considers himself the "customer's advocate," obsessed with making the user experience natural, familiar, and comfortable.
Prior to co-founding Tesla Motors, Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning (co-founder, VP, Engineering and CFO of Tesla Motors) co-founded NuvoMedia in 1997. Before NuvoMedia, Eberhard was co-founder and Chief Engineer of Network Computing Devices Inc., and developed high-volume terminals for Wyse Technology Inc.
Eberhard graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree in computer engineering and a master's degree in electrical engineering. Eberhard lives in both Northern and Southern California with his college sweetheart, Carolyn, and their two children. He loves hang gliding, paragliding (a hobby ended by Directors and Officers insurance), and taking long drives in the mountains.
