FARM, BUSINESS, LABOR LEADERS TO JOIN REPS. UDALL, PLATTS, CONGRESSIONAL
LEADERS IN CALL FOR NATIONAL RENEWABLE ENERGY POLICY
WHO: National Farmers Union, the American wind power
industry, the United Steelworkers, and the National Venture Capital
Association and Congressional leaders from both parties.
WHAT: Press event highlighting the benefits of
renewable energy for America's economy, security and environment and the
urgent need for a national Renewable Energy Standard (RES) amendment to
the energy bill.
WHEN: Tuesday, July 31, 10 a.m.

WHY: Increasing electricity generation from renewable
energy sources (solar, wind, biomass, geothermal and new hydro) would:
* Revitalize rural communities across the U.S.
* Reduce the use of fossil fuels to generate electricity,
limiting fuel price volatility and reducing emissions of conventional
pollutants and greenhouse gases.;
* Create hundreds of thousands of well-paying jobs;
* Enhance national energy security by reducing future imports of
natural gas;
* Save consumers more than $100 billion in energy costs; and
* Lay one of the key foundation stones for a serious national
energy policy.
