SPECIAL EVENT (COLORADO SPRINGS) - SCCA Joins Forces with
Tire Rack Street Survival to Save Young Lives
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SCCA Joins Forces with Tire Rack Street Survival to Save Young Lives
TOPEKA, Kan. (July 26, 2007) - Along with the freedom and excitement of
receiving a driver's license, comes the serious responsibility of being
a safe and educated driver. The sobering statistics on the number of
teen drivers involved in traffic incidents has prompted the Sports Car
Club of America to become a partner with The Tire Rack(r) Street
Survival program, giving young drivers, and their parents, access to the
wealth of expertise SCCA members have to offer.
Developed by the BMW Car Club of America and the BMW CCA Foundation in
2002, The Tire Rack(r) Street Survival teen driving schools are
expanding across the country and have enlisted the support of the Sports
Car Club of America for its growing network of classes.
On August 11 at the World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colo., the first
SCCA-operated Tire Rack Street Survival teen drivers' school will be
conducted by a group of highly skilled volunteer instructors from the
SCCA's Continental Divide Region.
The registration fee of $60.00 provides students with experienced
instructors who safely guide them through a day of behind-the-wheel
instruction and short classroom sessions. Driving skill courses are
specifically designed to mimic everyday driving hazards, obstacles and
challenges. Students will use the vehicles they are most familiar with,
which is usually their family or personal car, truck or SUV.
Parents are urged to talk to their teen drivers about the advantages of
attending this one day program. Eligible students are 16 to 21 years
old and hold a valid, unrestricted driver's license or a valid permit.
Students should have some driving experience and parents should make
plans to attend the programs along with their teens. Parents can find
the nearest school and register their teen drivers on-line at
www.streetsurvival.org <http://www.streetsurvival.org/> . For more
information on the Colorado Springs class, contact Arnie Coleman at
(710) 310-8281 or arniecoleman@comcast.net.
