ALMS (MID-OHIO) - NEW TEAMS PRODUCE SOLID RESULTS AT MID-OHIO

Team Cytosport posted a podium finish at Mid-Ohio in just its second American Le Mans Series race.

Team Cytosport's hard work paid off in its second showing in the American Le Mans Series. Drivers Greg Pickett and Klaus Graf secured a third place class finish Saturday in the Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The next challenge comes at lengthy Road America in a little more than two weeks.

"We are quite pleased with our Ohio race execution and are really looking forward to the Elkhart race," team manager Jim Dunford said. "We have some updates to the car from both Lola and AER that we will have in place for that race, which in the U.K. have solidly proven to produce speed."

The team is fielding a former Dyson-owned Lola-AER to challenge the other teams of the Series' most powerful class, LMP1. After their successful run at Mid-Ohio, the team is setting its sights on the remaining five rounds of the Series - with the exception of Mosport - in order to further their research, car and team.

"We know that as a team we have a long way to go but we are ready to take on the task of becoming very competitive at this level," Dunford said. "Greg, Klaus and the whole team are hungry to climb up to those Audis and are intent on doing so."

Woodhouse Performance and its Dodge Viper Competition Coupe placed seventh in GT2 at Mid-Ohio.

Also exceeding their goals, Woodhouse Performance recorded a seventh-place GT2 finish in an experimental outing to gather necessary data for possible future entries with the Dodge Viper Competition Coupe. With only a minor power-steering pump issue, drivers Cindi Lux and Stan Wilson piloted the Kumho-shod No. 13 entry effectively and finished the race with Wilson posting personal fastest laps up until the checkered flag.

"I was surprised at how fast the fastest lap of the weekend was," said Wilson. "I thought going into the weekend that the car could do laps in the mid 25s and that's what I was shooting for. I ran a 1:24 and I thought, 'Wow that's great.' There were quite a few who thought we'd be 10 seconds behind the other GT2 cars and instead we were about three seconds off of the top-five GT2 cars and only five seconds off the GT2 leaders.

"We were glad to be able to get a lot of fans excited about the return of the Viper and got Kumho excited about getting the first car that's not a prototype car to race on a Kuhmo slick in the United States," said Wilson. "So in many different ways the weekend was an overall success."

The next round of the American Le Mans Series is the Generac 500 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisc. The four-hour race is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT on Saturday, August 11. NBC Sports will broadcast the race from 2:30-4:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 12.
